Hello, my name is Brooke Shulta. I grew up in Southeastern Wisconsin and now reside in Southwestern Wisconsin. In my earlier years I was a very active 4-H member in Ozaukee County where I was in every project from animal projects, photography and everything in between. 4-H is where I was first introduced to wildlife conservation. I had joined the Archery, Shotgun and Wildlife Ecology projects. These opened my eyes to the great outdoors and shooting sports! As I got older, I qualified with a team to go to Nationals in the Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Program (WHEP) where we learned the practices that the men and women of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services use when managing wildlife. We had not placed very well, but I had found a love for the outdoors. I never really got much into hunting. I participated in the National Wild Turkey Federation’s “Learn to Hunt” program, a Learn to Hunt Pheasant program and went deer hunting during Wisconsin’s Gun Deer Opener once; but I never begged to go hunting all the time. I wanted to then go to UW-Stevens Point for Wildlife Biology. Then when I got into my Junior and Senior year, that all changed. I decided to pursue a degree in Animal Science at UW-Platteville.

Fast forward 8 years and here we are now. I am older and wiser. I have continuously followed my beloved friend Jess Wagner (@outdoorgirljess) on Instagram and Facebook and watched her grow into an admirable outdoorswoman. I decided to purchase my own shotgun and camouflage to begin my journey on becoming an Outdoorswoman later in my life. Yes, you can call me a “late bloomer”. I have decided to start this blog to share my journey to become “one” with the outdoors and to give back to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources by helping keep the wildlife population well managed. I will try my hand at hunting and broaden my horizons in the world of fishing as well.

I decided to share this journey with people to show that you can begin your love of hunting and fishing later on in life. It is okay! We all need to start somewhere. I had the basics down at an earlier stage in my life, but now I get to put them into practice. I will share everything! From the gun I have purchased and decided to use to the clothing I have decided to purchase. The only thing I won’t disclose is my exact location. Those are a secret! I want to share a journal of each hunting and fishing trip I take and the trials and tribulations I face along with the way; and of course, pictures!

I cannot wait to start this journey and have a mini audience rooting for me!
